The New Zealand Youth Choir will arrive in Niue on Wednesday 11th December.
This has been announced by the New Zealand High Commission in partnership with the Ministry of Social Services.
The choir is internationally recognized for choral performance at the highest level and has achieved outstanding success in many competitions – including winning the Choir of the World title, the global ‘Let the People Sing’ competition and most recently they were Grand Prix winners in the Czech Republic.
The NZYC has undertaken 11 international tours – taking their music of New Zealand to the UK, Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, Singapore, Russia, the Republic of Korea and China.
NZYC has chosen to celebrate their 40th anniversary by setting sail to the Pacific for the first time. Stopovers include Niue and featuring our very own “tama Niue” choir member Denzel Panama.
Denzel hails from the village of Tamakautoga .He joined the choir in 2017. Being part of the choir and working with this group, especially with Pasifika repertoire, has been a way for Denzel to reconnect with his heritage.
The tour will pay tribute to the important musical influence the people of the Pacific Islands have had on the choir and on New Zealand.
