Niue lawn bowls celebrate Pacific games achievement

Niue’s lawn bowling team formally celebrated their victory in an event last Wednesday, paying special tribute to their family members, supporters and Niue.

The event was held at the bowling club at Fonuakula. 

The lawn bowlers won Niue’s first gold medal in the Pacific Games, the women’s team also won silver while the men’s bowling team won bronze.

The team members all spoke of their experiences and thanked their families and friends for their continued support to the Niue Lawn Bowls. 

President of Niue Lawn bowls Des Hipa said it’s a huge effort for the Niue team to win games amongst top ranking teams in the Pacific such as Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Norfolk islands and Cook islands.

Hipa also clarified on the night that this is not Niue’s first gold medal in Lawn bowls.

” I must acknowledge tonight too this is not the first gold medal we have in the lawn bowls for your information. 2009 Niue won its first gold medal in lawns in the Mini games in the Cook Islands.” said Hipa
