The Japanese Government in partnership with Niue Tourism has funded the upgrading of 8 sea tracks around the island with the value of $220,000.
Niue Tourism Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Felicity Bollen says the Japanese Ambassador himself offered the upgrade assistance after touring Niue last year where he noticed attention required at several of the tracks he’d visited.
The Tuhia track alone is believed to be at an estimated expenditure in excess of $200,000.00. This project would ensure at least 8 tracks receive some assistance as per the vision of the Japanese Ambassador.
In discussions with Tourism in what was feasible, it was decided with the Ambassador that 8 of the tracks would get some upgrades variable in nature. Avatele for example has received refurbishment to the shelter with the provision of picnic tables to enhance the site. Togo will get a full upgrade while Hikutavake will get a shade sail.
The Japanese Ambassador is expected to revisit Niue during Constitution celebrations this year.
